Ocean Way Nashville was pleased to welcome two time Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla  (Brokeback Mountain, Babel) to record the score for the highly anticipated Sony Computer Entertainment video game The Last of Us. The post-apocalyptic video game, developed by Naughty Dog, was released this month and has already received many accolades for both the game and it’s score.

In his first composition for a video game, Santaolalla focused on the emotional relationship between the main characters which adds a unique element to the game. In a PlayStation article, Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli states “We are honored to have Gustavo’s music and talents in our game. The texture of Gustavo’s musical score serves the game’s narrative and the music is rife with poignant, descriptive and intimate sounds. His work is unlike anything heard in a video game before”.

In the video bellow, Santaolalla gives insight into the scoring process for The Last of Us.

The Last of Us is available now on PlayStation 3 and the soundtrack is available via Sony Masterworks
